Someone explain to me how it is that the first month of 2016 is already over.

As the title suggests, I've slated January as a month to form good habits since it's the start of the year, and the rest of the world aligns with all the people wanting to change their lifestyle and new year resolutions yadda-yadda, everyone knows the drill. I am happy to report, though, that I've been keeping up with some of my good habits, summarized neatly below, in bullet-form.

MULDERxSCULLY FEELINGS
  • LIMIT THE CONSUMPTION OF VAPID YOUTUBE CONTENT: To remedy this, I've been watching The X-Files. It really is no surprise to anyone that I am now Mulder-Scully garbage, just as I was Booth-Brennan garbage when I was marathoning Bones. I mean, how many times do I really need to watch fifteen different pubescent women with perfect skin say they think an (overly-priced) product is "so nice" and "so cute"?
  • PUT MORE EFFORT INTO LOOKING GOOD: Colourful eyeshadow, more specifically: green, purple, and rust-coloured eye shadows are my jam. I will be writing a separate post about this so I won't go into so much detail right now. The main thing, really, is that I want to be able to see the best parts of me as expressed by how I look. But also, purple eye shadow looks wonderful with my brown eyes, so I mean.
  • NO MORE BRAS: I haven't worn a "proper" padded bra in three months, and I feel amazing. I do still wear sports bras, and bralettes (for practicality's sake) but nothing with an under wire and pads. It is honestly incredibly liberating (in a there-isn't-any-metal-under-my-breasts type of liberating). I am a hundred percent comfortable, a hundred percent of the time.
  • GET BACK INTO DRAWING: It's been a long time since I've been excited about creating things that are on paper. I've been fantasizing about Alcohol-based Markers for almost a decade; I've finally decided to go ahead and grab some and holy jesus was I missing out. I will also be writing a separate blog post about the small steps I've been taking to get back into drawing (and writing!), so I won't be going much into detail about this as well, but do know: these markers are giving me immense artistic pleasure.
  • EAT BETTER: I'm guilty of eating shit things because they're easy, especially since my office is about two hours away from my home (ain't nobody got time for cooking healthy meat). I got a spiralizer for Christmas and I've been putting it to good use, making pasta-vegetables to substitute for actual pasta. Spiralized Turnip and Carrot General Tao Stir-fry has become my favourite meal. It's very simple; I've written the recipe after the stock photo of the spiralizer I have for you to enjoy.

SPIRALIZED TURNIP AND CARROT GENERAL TAO STIR FRY RECIPE:

1 Large Turnip
1 Carrot
1/2 Can of Corn
Butter/Olive Oil
General Tao sauce
Salt (optional)
Sugar/Honey (optional)
Pepper (optional)
2-3 cloves of Garlic

  1. Spiralize the turnip and carrot and set aside (make sure they're washed!)
  2. Start but sauteing the garlic in either butter or olive oil. I like to use half and half.
  3. When the garlic starts to smell, put in the spiralized carrots.
  4. Saute until the carrots have softened to how you want them.
  5. Add the turnip. You're going to have to work quickly now. Turnips are basically made of water so the longer you leave them cooking, the more you'll risk them just melting away and you'll end up with no more turnip noodles.
  6. When the turnips have become an off-white, add the general tao sauce and season with sugar, salt, and pepper. Season to whatever taste you prefer. I like mine with a stronger hint of sweetness so I add either sugar or honey, and only a pinch of salt, and pepper.
  7. Mix around so that all the vegetable noodles are coated in the sauce.
  8. Place in a bowl and consume.

Next month is February which is Form Outside Hobbies Month. Focus on a good work-life balance, and travel to London, Germany, and Prague.
