Day one of Rome was dedicated to the Colosseum, the Flavian Amphitheatre, the amazing vastness of this infrastructure really makes you feel so very, very small, and very very foreign. There is something about Roman culture that makes you feel that you cannot truly be Italian, unless you are Italian.
It was incredibly hot -reaching around 42-43 degrees. One thing you learn is to never throw away water bottles because you find fountains or spouts in the middle of piazzas that run water so you can refill your bottles. Water is very precious in Italy -you get charged around 1.50-3 euros for a liter.

We boarded the subway trains which were graffitied like crazy. There were other trains wherein the whole length of the train including the windows had graffiti. The subways are apparently notorious for pickpockets. They'd ride the trains all day, switching and waiting. The person who drove us to the hotel told us to be especially wary of women with children.
Also, I may never eat pizza and coffee the same way again. I will always crave for that Italian taste.
